Let’s get to some strategies to help you manage a bad manager.
First of all, it’s important to emphasize why this is important. Especially in the case of erratic supervisors, when people don’t speak out, the bad behavior is reinforced. Second, it’s key to know how your boss is bad. Alas, this comes with some introspection on your part, as well. If you notice any recurring problems, consider the ways you might be contributing to the problem, and then research ways to get better.
Once you’ve figured out some specifics, there are a number of things you can do. (I recommend starting with the excellent https://www.askamanager.org/ blog, particularly the “advice about your boss” section. You’ll also find some specifics on types of bad bosses and tips for handling them here: https://www.cnbc.com/2017/01/13/4-types-of-bad-bosses-and-how-to-handle-them.html.)
Come back next week for more tips!
